Who We Are

The Book Loft is the oldest independent bookstore on Amelia Island, Florida. In the heart of the Historic District in downtown Fernandina Beach, The Book Loft has two floors of books with a vast collection of titles from over forty different genres. We sell hardcovers, paperbacks, uniquely curated used books as well as complimentary non-book items such as puzzles, journals and greeting cards.

Our History

The Book Loft officially opened on St Patrick’s Day 1990, following a VIP celebratory reception the prior evening. Bill and Sue Nelson quickly established an old-fashion ambience where customers often become nostalgic when they enter the bookstore.

In the Spring of 2026, The Book Loft was passed to David and Cindy Nelson ensuring a second generation of Nelsons continue to operate as a family owned, small business.

The independent book industry is thriving, fueled by a universal love of literature that continues to grow every year. We are fully committed to helping our readers delight in book discovery by providing a well-chosen, uniquely curated experience. As a global destination, we seek to be a bookstore customers visit again and again by offering the slow time to browse, inquire and connect with books they’ll cherish.
